How to Move to Denver

For those wondering, yes I am working on the Montreal entry. I’m busy. But guess what. I moved to Denver!

Here’s how to do it in 7 easy steps that can apply to anyone:

  1. Quit your job in Omaha, NE (but, like, save money and stuff).
  2. Say goodbye to everyone you ever knew in a long series of lunches and a bar.

  3. 3. Stay with your parents in Sioux City for a couple of days while watching the Blivens’ dogs.

4. Pack shit.

5. Move in with your sister who went to grad school at DU and now lives in Denver.

6. Expand your professional network and meet new people through random group activities, like tech meetups, language meetups, and swing dancing.

7. Enjoy Denver.

Of course it’s annoying when every single motivational speaker in the world says, “Quit your job and follow your dreams and everything will work out. It’s as easy as that! I did it! Then I became a motivational speaker!” No, I’m not repeating their message, because the world isn’t that clean-cut and easy. But I do think there is some merit to being able to move into a new area without being 100% secure about it (at least I hope there is).

I’ve been wanting to make this move for a while. I think this may have been obvious to anyone that read the dontcryformeusa.com post back in January. I even mention visiting Denver at the end.

And, more interestingly, I’ve been enjoying the surprisingly sunny (and randomly stormy) weather of late-summer Denver.

I will be adding more features to this blog and will finally write the Part II’s and old entries I’ve been promising after getting more settled into the area. I may have the opportunity to travel more too. DIA is a big airport, and Omaha’s airport connects to DIA 1/3 of the time anyway. Might as well cut out the middle man.

Until later, don’t cry for me, Omaha.
